Rhön Message

FEELING AT HOME IN THE DISTANCE

Naturalness

What others label as sustainability, we at the Rhön Message understand as NATURALNESS. Naturalness in its most original sense - that is, to live as closely as possible to how nature has prescribed it to us. Admittedly, this is not always easy. But like so many things in life, it all starts with the first step.

Our first step was to sit down with our entire team to think about the values that the Rhön message stands for. This resulted in 5 corporate values that we align our daily work with. "Naturalness" is one of our values.

In the second step, we have compiled where we already contribute to naturalness, and quite a bit has come together! But that doesn't mean we will settle for that. We will continue to critically question where we can still improve to be able to make our contribution to climate protection. You are cordially invited to join in!

Naturalness in the Rhön message has many facets. Here is a small insight into our daily work.

Of course, have an even better breakfast

  • Our platter breakfast spoils you with delicious specialties from the region. You get everything you want, but also not more. This helps us to have to dispose of as little food as possible.
  • At our place you can get many self-produced products. Chocolates, jams, mueslis etc.
  • Already at breakfast, we make sure to produce as little packaging waste as possible.
  • Our ingredients come plentifully from the region. Mostly from small producers who fill the pantry of the Rhön and stand for special taste.
  • It starts with the breakfast juice. We offer regional juices instead of orange juice.
  • We always give priority to seasonal products. They simply taste much better when they are in season with us and do not have to travel long distances. In modern terms: Farm-to-Table.
  • In our restaurants, we have beautiful wooden tables that make a tablecloth unnecessary.

NATURALLY save CO2

  • We use an electric car for our trips and of course offer our guests an E-charging station
  • A PV system will soon capture solar energy and feed it into the grid.
  • District heating and biogas also help to save CO2.
  • Buying directly from the local shop also helps to save CO2. Motto: Shop locally instead of shipping.
  • By sourcing most of our food regionally, we avoid long-distance transportation. This also contributes to CO2 savings.
  • Seasonal products that grow outdoors not only taste more intense compared to plants from the greenhouse, but their cultivation significantly improves the CO2 balance.
  • We even grow some of our herbs ourselves.

Saving resources NATURALLY

  • The digital guest folder saves paper and supports our communication with our guests.
  • We use ECOLAB cleaning products. This provides a high level of cleanliness and hygiene and contributes to minimizing the ecological footprint.
  • We serve take-out food in recycled transport packaging
  • We receive our fresh country milk in reusable containers instead of Tetra Pak. This alone saves 1152 bags of plastic waste per year.
  • The remote-controlled heating in the rooms ensures your well-being and at the same time offers a good way to save energy intelligently
  • With the Green Option, you as a guest decide day by day whether your room should be cleaned or not. This way, you can actively contribute to saving water, electricity, and cleaning agents.
  • Instead of many small refrigerators in the rooms, we provide drinks for you in the Maxibar. This offers you a greater selection of drinks and is also energy-saving. Not only during operation, but already in production.
  • If possible, we work with natural materials. So we have long since switched to:
  • Glass drinking straws
  • Wooden cutting board
  • To go cup made of cardboard
  • Tealights from Biokema. They come from the region and are made from residual fats and oils from the food industry.

  • The beautifully designed Ox soap also comes from the region and will be recycled if you do not want to take it home.
  • In the toilets, we replace paper towels with "real" guest towels.
  • All boxes are carefully recycled or reused by us
  • If you feel like using the sauna, we are happy to turn it on for you. When not in use, we save valuable energy.
  • By offering you the Sunday roast to go, we help to save energy at your home. Since we can simultaneously put many Sunday roasts in the oven at the Rhön Embassy, we save valuable energy again in the end.
  • We not only avoid packaging waste at breakfast, but also on the floor and in the kitchen.
  • In the conference area, in addition to the classic flip charts, a white board is also available to you. This saves paper.
  • We have opted for the room card, so that no one can forget to turn off the lights when leaving the room. This helps save electricity and contributes to safety.
  • Various timers control the lights in our house. This way we avoid "light for nothing".“

Of course, utilize and strengthen the region

  • Even our workwear is produced regionally for us and our team. It not only looks good, it also gives everyone a good feeling.
  • For our breakfast board, we use products from local suppliers. This results in special taste experiences and freshness. It also supports small businesses and strengthens the region as a whole. The delivery routes remain short. This saves CO2.

NATURALLY involve the employees

  • Our fixed rest days help to save energy and give employees a certain level of planning security for their leisure activities.
  • Our employees have influence on the scheduling and can thus balance their personal and professional lives well.
  • Regular joint meetings help us understand ourselves as a team. Across departments. Each employee is allowed and encouraged to contribute with their ideas.

Avoid packaging waste and food scraps naturally

  • We are very concerned about wasting as little food as possible. We have put a lot of thought into this and the day starts with our board breakfast. Since you can order everything individually, there is hardly anything left for us to dispose of
  • At our place you can get many self-produced products. Chocolates, jams, mueslis, etc. Some jams are only created because there may be an oversupply of fruits at the moment. They have to be processed quickly.
  • We serve take-out food in recycled transport packaging
  • We are always looking for alternatives to small individual packaging. For example, we source our fresh country milk in reusable containers instead of Tetra Pak

NATURALLY make good use of leftovers

  • If we have leftover fruits, we mix them into a delicious smoothie or make our OXBlood
  • Our bread and rolls are turned into delicious bread dumplings
  • Nose to tail is part of our philosophy because it also shows respect for the animals when we prepare all parts deliciously.".

NATURALLY offer luxury

  • Sustainability should not compromise enjoyment and luxury.
  • In our restaurant living room, you should simply feel comfortable and be served friendly by a service at eye level. Enjoy our regional and tasty cuisine.
  • In our Michelin-starred restaurant Ox, we pamper you with a surprise menu. Also largely regional and seasonal.
  • With the "Green Option" - you decide how often we clean your room. This not only saves resources but also ensures your privacy. No one enters your room unless you expressly wish it.
  • If you are from the region and don't feel like cooking, treat yourself to the luxury of Sunday roast, which we are happy to prepare for you ready to eat.
